The Sigean African Reserve

It’s the number 1 attraction in our region!

A major place for the protection of the natural environment and the conservation of threatened animal species, the Sigean African Reserve, nestled on the edge of the Bages-Sigean ponds, shelters on its 300 hectares nearly 900 mammals, 600 reptiles and 2,000 birds, living in semi-freedom.

Open to the public throughout the year, the Sigean African Reserve offers several tours, by car and/or on foot.

The pond of Bages-Sigean

The Bages-Sigean pond is a preserved natural site of 800 hectares, located between Narbonne and Sigean. It is known for its biodiversity, its unique landscapes and its nautical activities. You can observe many animal and plant species, some of which are rare and protected.

The Terra Vinea Cooperative Cellar

The Terra Vinea cooperative cellar, located in Portel-des-Corbières, is a unique place that invites you to discover the region's history and wine culture. Visitors can explore the 13th century cellars carved into the rock, admire a collection of vintage cars and learn about the winemaking process by following an interactive route. Local wine tasting is offered at the end of the tour.

The beaches of Port-la-Nouvelle

The seaside town of Port-la-Nouvelle is famous for its magnificent beaches in town or in the heart of nature. The beaches of Franqui and Montilles are also very popular with tourists. Swimming, nautical activities and idleness will be on the program for your days in Port-la-Nouvelle.

Narbonne

Narbonne is a town rich in history and heritage, with its town centre, its cathedral, its Episcopal museum, its Narbo Via museum and the Robine canal. Do not miss a visit to the Abbaye de Fontfroide, located nearby.

Fontfroide Abbey

The Abbaye de Fontfroide is a medieval gem. Founded in the 12th century, it was restored in the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. 

It is now one of the finest examples of Cistercian architecture in France, with cloister, church and gardens. 

Visitors will be able to discover the history of the abbey through guided tours, and appreciate the serenity of the place. Concerts and exhibitions are organized regularly.
